Are FlixBus and Greyhound the same? ›

Munich, Germany-based Flix SE acquired Greyhound Lines Inc. in 2021. The FlixBus brand has been in North America since 2018, and the acquisition of Greyhound brought together two leaders of the travel industry.

After shutting down in Feb 2021 Greyhound SA was acquired by Eldo Coaches, who resumed Greyhound operations in 2022. Their competitors include the likes of Intercape, Bigsky Intercity and Translux.

German bus service FlixBus' parent company, FlixMobility, on Thursday announced it will acquire the iconic Greyhound Lines, expanding its base in the United States. FlixMobility will pay €148 million ($172 million) in cash to FirstGroup, the British owner of Greyhound, North America's largest motor coach operator.
