BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty is speechless by ‘slowest news segment’

BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Ben Thompson were left speechless after a whole segment of their show was given to a mouse named Mr Jingles. 

Unimpressed viewers branded it one of the ‘slowest news days’ this year after the rodent was given airtime. 

Mr Jingles was videoed sniffing the switch for the Christmas light switch on at his owner Martin Critchlow’s house, before the artificial tree was illuminated. 

Introducing the bizarre news feature, Ben said: ‘The relationship between a man and his mouse, who share the dinner, do the weekly shop and go to the beach together has been attracting a large social media following.’

Naga continued as Ben struggled to contain his laughter: ‘He’s called Mr Jingles. He’s gained nearly half a million followers on TikTok.

‘His owner Martin has been documenting his adventures online from their home in Lincolnshire. This is bizarre.’ 

Viewers watching at home took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts on it. 

One wrote: ‘Man does internet videos of his mouse. Top news? I don’t think so. If that is the best that #bbcnews has to offer then let’s scrap it now #defundTheBBC #bbcbreakfast’. 

Others said: ‘Proper slow news day’ and ‘They’re finally listening to me complaints that they need to do give EVERY animal who appears a name caption and not just dogs’. 

Another joked: ‘No doubt the same Mr Jingles from The Green Mile.’ 

It comes after BBC bosses were faced with their rudest blunder to date on Thursday when a presenter made an X-rated gaffe live on air. 

During the day’s BBC News at One bulletin, journalist Chetan Pathak delivered the latest news in sport news but a tongue-tied moment left him red-faced – and he later took to Twitter to apologise for the gaffe. 

The TV star, who also lists himself as a teacher and communication coach, delivered the news that German manager Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool had won the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup during which he was detailing the excitement.

Just days after BBC presenter Maryam Moshiri was caught giving the middle finger to camera another error has occurred.

After uttering the word for the sexual act, Chetan let out a giggle and resumed his composure, before taking to Twitter to pen: ‘My apologies, lesson learnt. The next time I think I’ll ad-lib a story, I’ll stick to what’s written on the autocue.’
